Games

posted by corey | November 10th, 2008 2:42 pm

One of the most popular sections on my old site (which can be seen in shambles here [via archive.org]) was the games section. It was definitely the most visited section. I’m thinking about doing that here. Maybe something with high scores and the such. I play a lot of flash games at work (shh!) and these days they can be pretty epic. I’m just throwing this out here, if anyone has an opinion on this, leave a comment. I might make it the next poll topic.

But hits and visitors have been ticking up every week now so I’m glad SOMEONE’s reading. I see you out there. Reading. Not Interacting. It’s OK. I still love you.

The new yeroc.org

posted by corey | October 8th, 2008 8:27 pm

Here is the new yeroc.org. This is what I’ve been toiling on ceaselessly for weeks, going without sleep and food.
Nah, just kidding. Been doing it at work.

There’s a TON of new stuff. Maybe not a lot you’ll notice. I am now going to provide a list of new stuff so you will notice them.

EDIT: I know about the IE6 bug. I know the cause, working on a fix that doesn’t require me recoding. If you catch anything else, let me know.

LIST GO: (in no order)

# I’ve added one of those share/save link aggregator mahoozers. It’s available on the comments page. If you really like a post, you can save it to your google bookmarks, delicious, or what have you. Or submit it to reddit/digg/y!buzz etc if you want to send my servers tumbling to the ground.

# Polls added. AJAX. Uses WP-Polls.

# New calendar. Scroll through months and bring up a months topics without refreshing. Ajax. WP plugin.

# Recent comments. Self-explanatory.

# Reddit links via reddit widget. Most of what I post is from reddit so its counter-intuitive. Eh.

# Upgraded Wordpress to v2.6.2.

# Enabled Akismet spam protection. Stay away v14gra b0+s!

# Google Analytics tracking, so I can see who’s not visiting.

# The base of the site validates, XHTML Strict and CSS. The shit I post, is somewhat questionable. Mostly videos and shit mess it up. What can you do.

# Comment system overhaul! Using my good friend Mike Smullin’s AJAX comments system, all dolled up. The framework is his. My design. It’s very nice. Try it out! (PLEASE)

# Tag cloud replaced with WP-Cumulus flash tag cloud. Oooh, flash.

# Menu overhaul! It’s not retarded anymore! No more negative padding. Validates.

# The banner (or “flag”) is random now. It goes between about 7 sets of eyes. (If you want to see them all go to yeroc.org/img/eyes/eyesX.jpg and replace the X with 1-7.) The eyes are all from Shepard Fairey’s “E Pluribus Venom” exhibit. I hope he’s okay with me using them. I own the book if that makes it any better.

# The font on the header is Helvetica Neue Ultra Light, expanded a little. Avaialable in Adobe Font Folio.

That’s everything that made it. Here’s some stuff that didn’t:

# cforms: tried using this for commenting. Too hard. Stupid.

#Ajax Comment Posting: ugly, boring. Buggy.

# I was going to include a top posts (by visits) section. That might still happen.

# Related posts, on each post page. Might also happen. I’m thinking point release?

# Currently Reading? Lame.

# Font Size changer: unnecessary. Ctrl+ Ctrl- works just fine.

Well that’s it. The site was really basic before, so this is really just getting to par. Let me know of any feedback or bugs. There’s still a known bugs page, for said feedback.

Tell your friends. Comment. Immerse yourself in all that is yeroc.org. Or something.

All American Post

posted by corey | July 31st, 2008 10:04 pm

Check out this mind boggling flash animation of the explosive growth of Wal-Mart across America.

Crazy. Almost as crazy as sausage-wrapped chocolate chip pancakes on a stick. Mmm?

To round out the crazy trifecta, some big deadline moves in baseball this year too. Being a bit of a fair-weather fan, coupled with the braves injury laden bad luck season, I haven’t been following baseball this season. But some of the deadline trades have made major news. Tex to the Angels, Manny to the Dodgers.. and Griffey Jr. to the White Sox?! Man. That’s some star power moving around. Too bad my beloved Braves are 9 games out without a cleanup hitter. The 9 games out is part of the reasoning behind the Tex trade. Rebuild for next year. Get some pitchers that will actually be able to.. pitch. More info here, here, and here. Kotchman might pay bigger dividens at a smaller premium over the long haul for the Braves so we’ll see.

This post really represents everything America is all about: Wal-Mart, gluttony, and baseball. FSM bless America.

Anyway. Tag system is up, cats are gone. Nothing setup to display tags yet. Gonna go with a cloud and a menu system probably. Time will tell. I’ll have more time over the weekend to work on it. Anyway. Shalom.

Categories to Tags

posted by corey | July 29th, 2008 11:41 pm

The transition from categories to tags is underway. Categories will be a thing of the past shortly. Work in process right now, updates in this post.

Also, Woot-off baby! Wish I had more time (and money) to buy cheap shit I don’t really need!

Also II, profile pages in the works too. I love getting ahead of my self.

Also III, the known bugs page is now going to be a to-do list as well, to organize all the things I’m getting ahead of myself with.

Home Again

posted by corey | July 28th, 2008 11:33 pm

When I say home, I suppose I just mean Georgia. Sleeping on my parents couch just doesn’t have that homey appeal. I’m just telling myself its short term (it is) until I get going at my new job (which I start tomorrow). I don’t know how many of my imaginary readers out there have ever lived.. transiently, or without a room or personal space, but take it from me, it’s a drag. This all boils down to: I’m homesick for a place that doesn’t exist. That sounds a little bizarre and existential but it’s truth. This is my home right now, but any personal possessions I have have to fit in a dresser drawer or messenger bag. Sigh.

/self-pity

Anyway, my Jersey jaunt was nice. We saw The Daily Show last Wednesday (link is to episode, listen for my laugh. it sounds like this: ha ha). I got some rays at the world’s most dangerous beach, Point Pleasant (link is to possibly real or not picture of the stupid-big waves there). I also spent about 942 hours in some form of transportation limbo (Planes, trains, and automobiles. Seriously. Delayed, canceled, and lost. Seriously.) But overall, a nice trip. I’ll take responsibility for the art of the week not being up last week, since I was distracting Maggie. Maybe. Regardless.

I start my new job tomorrow. Just training but yeah. Rambling is my cue to hit the door. I hope to get the menu redone and spiffed to look good across all browsers soon. I’m also planning on learning Flash for my new job, and maybe i can parlay some of that skill over to the yeroc. I’ve also added underline to links in posts, to make them stand out a bit more. I’ve upped the leading (or line-height) to hopefully make the posts more readable. Added meta tags o’plenty. That’s actually a lot of stuff. How about that.

Finally, there’s been a bit of buzz that I’m catching the tail end of, over the new search engine started by ex-google employees, Cuil.com (pronounced “cool”). It doesn’t seem that cool to me, but with the utter search engine dominance google has right now, I applaud any newcomer to the arena. It’s still new, buggy, and kinda stupid. But it’s also pretty, different, and very diamond-in-the-rough-y. But a pretty rough. Lots of buzz though. Kinda no results for yeroc.org. Weird. Even results for culi are.. mixed at best. Reaction here, here, and of course here.

Finally II, I’m going to be switching from categories to tags on the site. I get kind of rambley so it’s hard to throw any post under one heading. In this post alone, I’ve talked about a few different things that are very different. So look for old posts to be cleaned up, and all new posts to be tagged, not categorized.

Finally III, I wish I had a bigger readership, but I don’t really know how to achieve that. I don’t wanna be like, HEY, READ MY BLOG! Cause I know I usually don’t find other peoples personal blogs too interesting, unless they’re like some international jet setter (which I am not) or have some brilliant insight into interesting topics (Brilliant would be a stretch para mi.) I don’t know. I don’t think my grammar, writing, or proofreading skills are really that off the charts so I don’t want to put my self out there, and sound like an idiot. Some discourse would be nice, that’s all. I enjoy talking to no one I suppose; I’ve been doing it on here awhile now.

Okay that’s it, seriously. Goodnight.

yeroc.org goes live

posted by corey | July 16th, 2008 10:06 pm

Well the sites been live awhile, that subject just sounds cool.

There are still bugs, see the known bugs page for more info. Or if you come across a bug, submit it there. Much appreciated. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to redo the menu, because i suck with lists and that’s what the menu is built on so.. we’ll see. I just have a lot going on right now and I think the site is in good enough to be public and I don’t want it “under construction” forever so. Here it is. Enjoy?

Whoa! Shut It Down

posted by corey | June 27th, 2008 6:03 am

I haven’t been working on the site at all recently. I saw Acacia Strain in South Carolina Thursday night. Pretty damn awesome.

I also purchased Final Fantasy III and New Super Mario Bros. for DS and they are a timesink.
And.. I’m lazy. But i have the menu basically laid out and the base of the site is valid XHTML and CSS. The posts seem to be something else altogether.

NASA has found ice on Mars, and they’ll be no ice at the North Pole this year, experts say. What a strange juxtaposition. What an amazingly clear sign that we’re ruining our planet. Sad quote from the article:

If it happens, it raises the prospect of the Arctic nations being able to exploit the valuable oil and mineral deposits below these a bed which have until now been impossible to extract because of the thick sea ice above.

Stupid thick sea ice in the way of my valuable oil! Why didn’t we just melt the stubborn ice and get that black gold out!?

To make up for no updates, heres an lolcat:
